Shortlist 2015

Teachers, librarians, teaching assistants and book lovers from across North Somerset have spent the past few months reading the nominations for the North Somerset Teachers’ Book Award. This aims to champion a selection of the best children’s literature on offer for use in the primary classroom.

The North Somerset Teachers’ Book Award 2015 shortlist has been announced. Among those shortlisted are heroic, raison-sized fleas, poetic bees, a musical rhino and an unusually large waddle of penguins.

Who will win? Educators countywide are invited to read the shortlist and vote for their favourite in each category. The chosen books represent the best newcomers, neglected treasures and unsung heroes, selected not only for enjoyment, but also their educational value.

As professionals who work with children every day, we are passionate about raising the profile of quality children’s literature which will engage and inspire children to develop a life-long love of reading. We are also qualified to prepare materials which will drive and enrich the primary curriculum. With this aim in mind, we are committed to offering teaching sequences based around the winning titles.

Our dedicated website features reviews of all the long listed titles along with numerous suggestions for classroom use. There will now be a section for the short list with a link to each review. We welcome teachers to email their votes and share their thoughts about each title.
