Punctuation bothers me. I am unashamed to admit that I glare at signs bearing random apostrophes. My tolerant husband and son know to just shake their heads as if agreeing that it is quite shameful that the BBC no longer give proper nouns capital letters.
So, you can imagine my delight when I found that David Crystal has written a new book on the subject, exploring the history behind each punctuation mark and its usage. Written with his usual wit and intelligence, this book is a real pleasure to read- and then to refer back to.
Beautifully presented (and matching his book on spelling!), 'Making a Point' is a must for all teachers- and anyone interested in the amazing English language!
