On the second day of Christmas...

Janet and Allan Ahlberg

A Christmas classic, this book ( like its fellows, The Jolly Postman and The Jolly Pocket Postman) is an absolute gift to teachers. Not only does it offer a thoroughly enjoyable story with lots of references to traditional tales and nursery rhymes, it also offers much potential for worked based around it- writing opportunities, drama, choral speaking/ reading, art, map work, maths investigations...

I read The Jolly Christmas Postman to my Year 6 class today- just for fun. They loved it; some of them were chatting about creating their own versions for younger siblings! First published in the early 90's- long before they were born- the book was not familiar to many of them which was a shame. So let's not forget it! Get it off your shelf and treat yourself and your class/ your children/ your nephews and nieces/ your neighbour's children to this wonderful story and spread a little Christmas cheer!
