Some Dogs Do by Jez Alborough

Published by Walker (ISBN: 978-1844284573)

As he walks to school one day, Sid is so happy that he flies! However, once faced with the doubt and disbelief of others, he loses feeling of self-belief and with it, the ability to fly. Luckily, Sid has a very understanding dad who helps him with his problem.

Perfect for sharing, this book is written in rhyme which bounces along in a satisfying way. Worth looking at time and time again, the bright, bold illustrations are great fun and Sid is a very appealing little pup.

This is a book with a strong message about believing in yourself and not letting others destroy your dreams. It could be used with any age children to spark discussions on this topic. Older children might also explore why some people find it hard to support/ believe in the dreams of others. This in turn could lead to exploring inventions etc that have come from chasing dreams and ideas.

It is also great to see a picture book showing such a positive father son relationship, with the father sharing Sid’s dreams and supporting him.

Many possibilities present themselves from this lovely book!
