Today is 'Winnie the Pooh Day'!
Created by A.A Milne in 1926, Pooh Bear and his friends have been family favourites ever since. January 18th was chosen as Pooh Day as A A Milne was born on this day in 1882.
Whether you celebrate this day by having a game of pooh sticks or reading your favourite Pooh story, there's certainly no denying the place of this bear in the heart of people worldwide.
A.A. Milne wrote the stories based around his son, Christopher Robin, and the soft toys he liked to play with- Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Kanga, Roo, Eeyore and Tigger . Owl and Rabbit were added from Milne's imagination. The setting of the story was Ashdown Forest in Sussex where it is possible to visit some of the locations from the stories.
For a Bear that is such a part of childhood, I am surprised by how many children only know the Disney version of the character. Perhaps this is evidence, if needed, of how important Winnie the Pooh Day is!
My Pooh Bear has gone missing and so I have had to use my Charlie Bears, Blog and Byte to pose with the books!
“It's so much more friendly with two.”
“It’s good spelling but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places.
Hip, hip, hooray for Winnie the Pooh!
