Thursday 4th February 2016 see the return of Harry Potter NIght- and we are all very excited!
Last year, we had great fun! At my school, we decorated our small hall with the house tables, the teachers' table and Platform 9 3/4. Various professors led the new 'First years' to be sorted into their house by the sorting hat. This was met with squeals of excitement as each child joined their peers at their house table and proudly pinned on their house badge. We read about the sorting ceremony from 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'.
Even the rain couldn't dampen our fun as witches, wizards, Muggles and the occasional house elf dodged the raindrops searching for the items on the scavenger hunt list! This is an activity that we will be repeating this year as it was so easy to organise, but was so enjoyable!
There were games and snacks based on the books before finishing with a shortened version of the quiz. No one wanted to go home!
This year's pack is full of even more ideas and can be downloaded
Excitement is running high about this year's event - and we might have got a little carried away! As well as the house tables etc, we will be having a Gringotts where the children will be able to change money into knuts, sickles and galleons so they can go shopping in a Diagon Alley meets Hogsmead mix!! We're still planning to have the quiz and scavenger hunt, readings from the books and sorting, but there will also be a potions table where the children can write in invisible ink and try some of the other suggestions from the new pack. There will also be a prize for the most creative costume- which last year would have been won by Professor Sprout!
In all honesty, I think some of the teachers might be more excited than the children!!
Please send pictures from any events you hold and I will post a selection after the 4th!
Happy spell casting!
