Having missed him in Weston, Bristol and Bath, I managed to track down the lovely Steve Antony at Cheltenham Literary Festival. His books are particular favourites of mine!
The Queen's Present is the third book Steve has written about Her Majesty! The Queen's Hat and The Queen's Handbag are both great fun, but this new one is (I think!) my favourite!
In need of a gift for the little prince and princess, the Queen enlists the help of Father Christmas himself! They set off on a journey around the world flying past many of the great sights.
Full of gorgeous illustrations, the book is beautifully written, building to a lovely conclusion. This would make an excellent Christmas present- perfect for the up-coming festive season!
Mr Panda is a stickler for good manners, offering the perfect lesson without preaching. He also makes very good doughnuts which he is happy to share with those who are polite! I believe there is a third Mr Panda book to come-Thank You, Mr Panda- which I can't wait to read and share!
I am planning a Mr Panda session for the library soon, decorating doughnuts-and practising manners!
I have great plans for Green Lizards vs Red Rectangles! It reminds me of the wonderful Tusk Tusk by David McKee and is perfect for using in class to help children understand how futile conflict can be.
Monster in the Hood is also by Steve Antony and reminds us that things are not always as they seem. Full of wonderful illustrations, the suspense builds with each turn of the page until it reaches its satisfying conclusion.
Wharever comes from Mr Antony next, you can bet it will be a real treat! There are lots of ideas for activities relating to his work on his website: http://www.steveantony.com/
