Dr Seuss born March 2nd 1896

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!

Having written and illustrated  more than 40 books, Dr Seuss made children laugh with titles like 'Green Eggs and Ham' and 'Fox in Socks'.

"I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-am."

However, many of his books also contain strong messages of self belief and caring for others.

March 2nd is 'Read Across America Day' when thousands of schools, libraries and community centres come together to encourage everyone to read. What a perfect way to celebrate the birthday of someone who helped so many children start reading!

"If you keep your eyes open enough, oh, the stuff you will learn! The most wonderful stuff!"

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
