I have absolutely loved reading this book. As a busy mum, it can take me a while to get through a book as I find it difficult to sit and find the time to read without interruption. I just couldn't keep away from this story.
This is the story of Calypso, a young girl who has lost her mum and lives with her serious father who has retreated into himself as a result of the early loss of his wife. He is an author and she an avid reader and lover of stories. It's a heart warming tale of the friendship that develops between Calypso and Mae through their shared love of literature and of the all-encompassing joy love that Calypso's contracted family receive from their new chaotic friends.
It is written for 9-12 year olds and I think deals with a difficult issue of grief and depression in a very informative and useful way for young readers.
Well done, Jo. I love it and can't wait to hear what my eleven year old thinks of it.
