Day One of the FCBG Conference!

Owing to the kindness of Head teachers, we managed to leave North Somerset at lunchtime and make our way up the motorway to Telford. Some of our group took a minor detour (unintentionally!), but we all got there in the end!

Conference began with tea and coffee, courtesy of Egmont. We had a much needed cup cake (which was delicious) before the AGM started.

Then, it was off to the Publishers' Exhibition! We loved this bit! Being able to see new and soon-to-be-published titles is such a treat and we chatted to some lovely people from the publishing world. We were given some amazing new titles which we are looking forward to reading as soon as possible (some of us started last night!!)

The exhibition closed at 6pm when we were invited to have drinks with Little Tiger. We found ourselves nest to Nibbles... we can't wait to get our hands on this book (Torie already has a copy!) and we spent some time playing with the little Nibbles toy!

Dinner was served next and we all ate far too much before heading for the evening's highlight- hearing Katherine Rundell speak!

And what a treat it was! Katherine shared the ideas and inspirations behind her three books, 'The Girl Savage', 'Roof toppers' and ''The Wolf Wilder'. Gently humorous and fascinating to listen to, she told us little stories and showed us photos that had inspired her writing. She left everyone in the room very inspired and was then completely delightful whilst signing books, speaking to everyone.

'Books are not a hiding place; they are a finding place.'

The evening finished with a quiz hosted by Anderson Press. We up-held our honour quite well- we were only beaten by one mark!

A great start to Conference! We're all looking forward to Day 2!
