This fantastic book from the Royal Horticultural Society and Dorling Kindersley is crammed full of fabulous ideas for things to make, cook and create based around the garden.
Full of beautiful photos, the book manages to combine facts with fun. Suggestions for making things like painting plant pots are explained using very clear instructions which could be used as a WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) or a model for writing in class. A lovely range of activities is offered, suitable for both home and school.
The 'Cook It' section is particularly strong as it offers achievable but different recipes- I'm very keen to try the 'Blueberry Cheesecake' and the potato and carrot crisps to see if they taste as good as they look!
There are lots of ideas for things to make in the final section- Create It- but most of these are more suited to home use than with a whole class. However, they would be great activities for a gardening club or similar group.
The book ends with a Bug quiz, lots of facts and suggestions for plants to grow.
'RHS Garden Projects' would make a lovely gift or a wonderful resource for a teacher or group leader. Lots to keep children-and adults- happy!
I'm off to make some potato and carrot crisps!
