We found a real treat today! The Hungerford Bookshop is (as the named suggests!) to be found in the pretty village of Hungerford in Berkshire.
On entering the shop, we were greeted with cheery 'hellos' and it soon became clear that most people who came in were very regular customers, all known and welcomed by name! As a result, the shop had a lovely welcoming atmosphere where browsing and chatting are positively encouraged!
Discussions about books and reading are high priority in this shop with one of the ladies who was serving telling me that customers always give them excellent ideas for what to look out for and what to read next!
Their children's section is delightful and very well stocked. It was such a pleasure to see a significant portion of the shop- and the window display- given to children's literature. Their picture book selection was particularly rich and varied. I snatched up the new Pom Pom book as soon as it was put on display!
Although I have bought more books than I should this week, I still managed to find treasures galore in this lovely shop. If you find yourself in the area, this should be high on your 'places to visit' list! We will be visiting again!
