Book Title: The Usborne Official Astronaut’s Handbook
Author: Louie Stowell, illustrated by Roger Simo
Not so long ago I found this list on my 10 year old son’s desk.
Places I Want To Go
- The Space Station
- The Moon
So, as it seems my son intends to travel, I thought ‘The Usborne Official Astronaut’s Handbook’ would be of some use to us!
We both enjoyed this funny, fact-packed book immensely.
Complicated science such as Radiation, G-Force and how flames behave in Microgravity are explained in a simple yet detailed way and I, let alone my boy, learnt a lot!
The cartoon illustrations on each page superbly support the text and make this book a delight to share and an engaging way to begin a topic on space. My son studied the ‘Plan of the Office’ picture of the International Space Station for ages, reading the labels and discussing the information, talking with enthusiasm about what it must be like to live and work there.
The forward by Tim Peake is genuinely inspiring and any wannabe astronaut would feel well prepared for a journey past the Kaman line (see page 8!) after reading this handbook.
Brilliant for reluctant readers and motivational to all – we loved this book!
Now to find an equally exciting guide to Sweden!
