Walking up Cheap Street in Frome is like walking into the past. Apparently, it is one of the best preserved medieval streets in Europe and still has a 'leat' (an open watercourse) running down its centre.
This lovely street is where you will find 'Hunting Raven Books', an absolute delight of a book shop with friendly, helpful staff.
The very window display of the children's section says so much about the range of treats awaiting those who step through the door...
...and you are not disappointed! The shelves are full of an excellent range of fiction and non-fiction for all ages.
Their excellent picture book selection is arranged in different ways. Some sections are labelled with the names of popular authors and some by 'theme'- for example, dragons. I really liked this as it shows you how others think of grouping books and leads you to new discoveries!
Laid out to accomodate the great range of books, the shop still managed to feel light and spacious. A constant stream of customers was evidence of the shop's popularity and it had a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
The shop hosts its own literature festival-Authors and Books for Children Days- known as ABC days. I am hoping to find out more about these for next year!
Having spent a good while browsing, I left the shop clutching a bag of treasures! I will be returning soon- if only to ask them why they are called 'Hunting Raven Books'!
