Friendship, farms...and sniffer pigs!

If you are looking for a lovely story to share and enjoy with animal lovers, then this is a real treat.

In the first of a new series, the reader is introduced to Jasmine and her family. Living on a farm, Jasmine's dad is a farmer and her mother a large-animal vet so it is not surprising that Jasmine loves animals and wants to rescue any in need.

'A Piglet Called Truffle' is perfect for children finding their feet in reading who are looking for a longer story to enjoy. Although accessible, it offers plenty of challenge as Helen Peters uses wide vocabulary and an exciting plot. You also learn a surprising amount about looking after farm animals!

Jasmine is a very likeable and believable character and her rescue of Truffle is completely in keeping with what the reader knows of her. Her little brother and his friend are great creations- 'Violent Babies' is right out of the imagination of a five-year-old!

Helen Peters' books for older children- 'The Secret Hen House Theatre' and 'The Farm Beneath the Water'- are both excellent reads and it is great to see her maintain the quality of her writing for a younger audience. I am really looking forward to the rest of the series.
