Red pandas, raccoons and ice-rays!

I make no secret of my love of Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam-  and their creators. Excellent stories coupled with amazing illustrations make their picture books very special- and worthy winners of last  year's NSTBA Picture Book category.

So, when I found out that there was a new book starring these lovable baddies-turned-good, I was delighted. When I found out it was going to be written as an early chapter book, I was over the moon!

Containing all the best features of the other Shifty books- excellent writing with rich vocabulary, plenty of spiders to spot, fun plots, great characters etc- 'The Spooky School' offers three very entertaining stories which will tempt even the most reluctant reader.

The illustrations are wonderful and there are plenty of them to discuss and engage with along the way. Many of the pictures, like the cross section of the school above, encourage the children to add to the story and develop their own ideas. The limited colour palette gives the book an uncluttered, calm feel and does not distract the reader from the text.

What I hope will be the first of a series of books, The Spooky School will be an essential addition to classroom shelves for supporting those developing confidence as readers and for anyone who loves a great story!
