Yesterday, I went to Plymouth to visit my boy- he has been away a whole week! Before meeting up, I just had to pop into a bookshop (or three!) and in the Waterstones in Drake Circus, I bumped into a fellow FCBG member, Fiona Barker, signing copies of her new book, 'Amelie and the Great Outdoors'.
'Amelie and the Great Outdoors' is about a little girl who never goes outside. Why would she? The outdoors has no computer games, no toys, no telly!
One day, Amelie meets Barlow who tries to persuade her to go outside- to jump in puddles, to go to the beach, to fly a kite, to kick leaves, to play in the snow... Amelie is full of excuses until, one day, she makes a BIG decision!
The story highlights all the simple pleasures of going outside and enjoying the great outdoors. Fiona was delightful and her love of picture books shone through as we chatted. Children were having a great time adding to a big picture about the things they do in the great outdoors which was stretched across the floor of the children's section.
A book with a great message- and lots of ideas for things to do in the great outdoors!
