So- now Torie has at last got her copy, I can review this book!
I have been a huge fan of the 'Reeve and McIntyre production' books since I read 'Oliver and the Seawigs'- and their latest collaboration, 'Jinks and O'Hare Funfair Repair', does not disappoint!
Having hatched out of a pale blue egg that had been laid by an over-excited visitor on the Switchback of Doom, Emily now lives in the attic of the Lost Property Office on Funfair Moon. She loves the noises, the sights, the sounds and the smells of Funfair Moon, but her dream is to work alongside her heroes- and those who originally found her- Jinks and O'Hare, the Funfair Repair men.
Things start to go wrong when there is a surprise inspection of the Funfair by Jeremy Moonbottom from the Galactic Council, and his assistant, Miss Weebly. Emily needs to work quickly if she is to help Jinks and O'Hare keep things running- and stop the inspector from closing down her beloved Funfair Moon.
From the very end papers, the reader is immersed in Emily's world as text and illustration work in perfect harmony to tell the story. Sarah's fabulous pictures add subtle details and humour to the text and show that some familiar faces enjoy a trip to Funfair Moon as much as anyone else!
Emily is a brilliant character who is resourceful, loyal and determined. Her intelligence and ability to make friends help her to defeat the evil machinations of a certain inspector and triumph in the face of adversity.
A madcap adventure, 'Jinks and O'Hare Funfair Repair' is also a very satisfying story with well developed characters. I can't wait to share this with my new class- I know they are going to love it!
