British Books Challenge 2- I Don't Know What To Call My Cat

I love cats- and would love to have another one (or two... or three...)- and know how choosing exactly the right name is so difficult!

A little girl is delighted when she gets a new cat. It just turns up on her doorstep one day and she sets about trying to give it a name. A visit to the vet's confirms that he is a she and the problems start again!

There is so much to look at and enjoy in this book. Ella Bailey has packed each spread full of details and jokes to share and enjoy. Cat wallpaper, cat-shaped musical notes, cat-shaped glasses, a cat-shaped pencil case- the little girl lives in a world of cat-filled chaos!

And then...the cat leaves!

Searching for her pet leads the little girl to the zoo where a gorilla takes a fancy to her and decides to become her new pet! Suddenly, bananas are everywhere- but a friendly face is keeping an eye on things and as 'Steve'- the gorilla- gets naughtier and naughtier as familiar feline returns to save the day, complete with name!

Delightfully silly- why the gorilla???- this is a great fun read with wonderful illustrations. But it also offers the opportunity to discuss looking after a pet and how to treat one. With all the names suggested in the books to choose from, there is just one question- what would you call your cat?
