What a find this was! From the car park, we walked along Market Place through 'Hole-in-the-Wall' Lane to The Crescent and there it was...Bookmark!
Once inside, we were greeted by polite, friendly staff who are obviously (and rightly!) very proud of their shop. It is a light, airy space filled with a tempting array of book-ish delights!
Rounding the corner to the children's section- look what I found! This wonderful train has little stools in its carriages and is surrounded by a fabulous selection of picture books, including some of my favourites! They are all laid out at child height, just begging to be browsed. This was such a lovely space that I didn't think it could get any better!
And then I found the section for older children into teens. Separated from the rest of the shop by a mini garden area complete with fountain, this is such a peaceful, relaxed setting for choosing your new reads! A lovely selection of books was on offer, including a good poetry section and an excellent non-fiction selection which had some real gems that I hadn't seen before.
When I asked about a book I was looking for, the lady I spoke to could not have been more helpful. Although they didn't have what I wanted in the shop, she assured me that it could be ordered and would come within a day. As we were not going to be back that way, sadly, I had to say no thanks!
I did, however, find seven books to add to my collection- and could have bought many more. The pleasure of browsing in such a delightful environment was great; I hope the people of Spalding realise just how lucky they are to have this wonderful bookshop and I hope they give it the support it deserves!
The shop also boasts a lovely tea room so after buying my new selection, we had to try out their cake! I'm pleased to report that both the lemon drizzle cake (me) and the cream tea (Gav) were delicious!
If you are in the area, then this is a Brilliant Bookshop NOT to be missed; if you're not in the area, find an excuse to go anyway!
