Many children love books where you search for things. They sit for ages in the book corner, the classroom, in the playground or library, heads bent together over a book, searching for the items or character they need to find. Great fun which encourages them to work collaboratively.
'The BIg Bird Spot' offers all this and more! Each beautiful double spread looks at a different habitat and the birds that populate it.
In the introduction, Matt Sewell tells the reader that 'birds are good at hiding and camouflaging themselves' and this becomes apparent as you hunt for them- they are not easy to find! The book looks at different locations from around the world and the birds that live there. Each page has information about the birds and tells you what you need to find- for example, 12 little yellow cirl buntings in the meadow or 23 little auks on and around a cliff.
The answers are at the back of the book and they tell you not only where the birds you are hunting are, but also what all the other birds shown are so that you can see the difference between them.
Quietly educational, this is a lovely book for sharing- you learn about birds without realising it! Brilliant!
