LONGLIST REVIEW: The Everything Machine

An intelligent machine that can print anything? Well, what would you do..?

When Olly receives a parcel stamped with PROPERTY OF M.O.D and BRITISH SPACE AGENCY. WARNING. DO NOT TAMPER, it's fairly obvious it's not the rabbit hutch he ordered. It's an intelligent, 3D printing machine which can print anything it's asked to. Initially, Olly and his siblings have great fun- sweets, a swimming pool- but the only thing Olly really wants is his dad. Can a printed copy take the place of the real thing..?

This is a romp of a story with plenty of laughs and fun, but one which cleverly asks the reader to consider what they would actually ask for in this situation. Initially, the Olly, his brother, Stevie and sister, Bird, go for the fun things, but this is not where real happiness lies.

Great for reading aloud, the story also offers much to discuss and consider. The characters are engaging and very believable - Bird is a particular favourite of mine! Very hard to put down, this will be a real hit for reading to a class!
