Always keen to support local events, we were delighted to hear about this Literary Festival in Somerset! We couldn't make it this year, but it's in the diary for next!
Last week saw the launch of the inaugural Perrott Hill Children’s Literary Festival at Perrott Hill Prep School in Somerset. The festival, which took place during half term and was open to ALL children in Years 1-8 from the surrounding communities, featured workshops and masterclasses from a range of award-winning and inspirational authors, including Waterstones Children’s Book Prize winner, Rob Biddulph and creator of Cbeebies’ Bing!, Ted Dewan – as well as favourites Ali Sparkes (The Shapeshifter Series), Tracey Corderoy (Shifty McGifty) and Christine Leech (Everything Alice, Pompomania).
“I had lots of fun, and loved meeting Laura James,” said Jacob Chapman, who is in Year 1 at Hinton St George First School. “I read the whole of Cowboy Pug myself the next day!”
“Your storyteller, Martin Maudsley, was absolutely brilliant,” added his mum Tessa, who came to our special storytelling-in-the-woods session for 3-5 year olds with her daughter, Alice. “As a parent, it made me think about the difference between just reading a story and actually telling a story. I’m going to try to put a bit more into it from now on!”
“It was such a pleasure to see so many engaged and happy children from a wide range of local schools come together for this event,” said Lizzi Gardner, Director of Marketing at Perrott Hill. “We’ve had so many positive messages from parents and so many inspired children, which is exactly what we set out to do. Roll on next year!”
