Patch Brightwater is a piper. In an attempt to rid Paterfall of its vermin, he plays The Dance, an illegal tune, and nearly drowns all the village inhabitants. This lands him in huge trouble- and in a Tiviscan prison. Here, he comes into contact with the infamous Pied Piper of Hamelyn which leads to yet more trouble! With Wren, a girl cursed to live as a rat, and Barver, a dracogriff, Patch must go on a quest to save his friends- and the kingdom.
This is an amazing story! Keeping the synopsis brief and vague is a very deliberate choice as it would be such a shame to spoil a single second of the joy of reading of this fabulous adventure by giving too much away. It’s one you need to soak up for yourself!
The writing is instantly engaging; the compelling plot and appealing characters make this an instant hit. The use of the traditional tale of The Pied Piper of Hamelyn as backstory offers a familiar feel to a highly original story which really has something to offer everyone!
The main characters of the story- Patch, Wren and Barver- are all brilliantly drawn with well developed personalities. None are perfect which just serves to make them more lovable as the reader discovers the secrets they are hiding and the untruths they might have told! Baddies are deliciously bad and there are also many lesser characters throughout, making the story context rich and alive.
Friendship and being true to yourself are important themes in this book and I just love it! I can’t wait to read more books about these wonderful characters! Read it now!!
