LONG LIST REVIEW: Fabio The World's Greatest Flamingo Detective: The Case of the Missing Hippo

Fabio.jpg

All the world's greatest flamingo detective wants to do is sit on the veranda of the Hotel Royale, sipping pink lemonade. However, he is persuaded to act as a judge for the hotel's talent show. Apart from the arguing between his fellow judges, all seems to be going well until the most promising contestant- Julia the jazz singing hippo- goes missing.

Fabio and his giraffe associate, Gilbert, must track down all the clues and solve this baffling mystery!

The best read aloud stories are those which are fun to read aloud and this is certainly one of those! Full of colourful characters and many suspects, the short chapters are easy to get through and the lively humour will keep children engaged and laughing. There are also plenty of opportunities for putting on those all important voices for each character and really making the story your own!

This pink-Poirot makes short work of all the suspects and solves the crime with panache and hopefully, this will be the first of many mysteries he has to solve. As 'Fabio' is perfect for newly independent readers, having this as a class reader might well inspire children to read any further episodes from Fabio's casebook.

The illustrations are wonderful- full of energy and humour. The bright colours are very appealing - sure to catch the eye of the most reluctant reader!
