Anne of Green Gables

‘Anne of Green Gables’ - and the following stories about Anne Shirley- have always been amongst my favourite books since I first read them as a young child. Anne’s wonderful imagination and feisty attitude have always appealed to me so I was delighted when I was sent a box set of these books by Sweet Cherry Publishing.

I have many copies of the first book- Anne of Green Gables- from the much read, rather tatty original copy I adored as a child to various ‘collectable’ versions. This new set shows Anne on the cover of each story as she grows up and then her children on the last two books. The bright colours and cartoon style pictures are very appealing, hinting at the stories within. ‘Anne of Windy Willows’ has been given its original Canadian title of ‘Anne of Windy Poplars’ in this set and each book retains the original text to be enjoyed by a new generation of potential Anne fans!

One of my guided reading groups are sharing ‘Tilly and the Bookwanderers’ by Anna James ( review here) Tat the moment and Anne Shirley is a key figure in this story so as part of their work, they have found out more about who she is and the stories she appears in. I was delighted to be able to share this beautiful box set of Anne’s stories with them and they were greeted with great enthusiasm. It’s always a pleasure to introduce children to a ‘classic’ or two! We compared them to other versions of these books which I owned and these new copies really appealed to them.

A very appealing set of familiar books, this ‘Anne Shirley’ collection would make a lovely addition to any bookshelf- particularly mine! Many thanks to Sweet Cherry for sending them to me.
