Read Aloud Day

Celebrating Read Aloud Day 2019!

Today was full of excitement as snow had fallen overnight and we all woke to a white, wintry world! Once we had all thawed out a bit, we gathered together in the hall to celebrate Read Aloud Day. Members of staff had selected favourite stories which they were then going to share with the children.

We started with ‘The Boneyard Rap’ by Wes Magee which the children had learned part of on National Poetry Day. Being a massive ‘Oi’ books fan, Mr O then burst into a lively reading of ‘Oi Duck Billed Platypus!’, doing a very wonderful range of voices.

The stories followed thick and fast, old and new, extracts and complete- Kipling’s ‘The Elephant’s Child’, one of Shaun Tan’s ‘Tales from Outer Suburbia’, the fable of the sun and the wind, ‘Robo-Snot’ by the lovely Amy Sparkes who visited us last year and illustrated by Paul Cherrill… We even had a section of ‘Momo’ by Michael Ende in German as well as English!

Sadly, we ran out of time and are planning another session to hear more as KS 1 were desperately keen to come in for their story sharing session! A wonderful way to bring the whole school together!

Many classes shared more stories as the day continued, taking the opportunity to enjoy some calm moments between the snowball fights and snowman building competitions.

Huge thanks to everyone who took part! It’s wonderful to be part of such a book loving team!
